Background:
Staff, on behalf of the Charlotte County Board of County Commissioners (Board), is requesting this rezoning application to amend the Charlotte County Zoning Atlas from Residential Single-family 5 (RSF-5) to Parks and Recreation (PKR). The subject property is located at 537 Darst Avenue, in the Punta Gorda area and in the South County area, The site contains 0.483? acres The applicant is concurrently seeking a small scale plan amendment from Low Density Residential to Parks and Recreation. The stated purpose of this unified application, which contains the County's Darst Park, is to ensure that the proposed zoning category of PKR is consistent with the current use of an active park to serve Charlotte County citizens and potential future development of the property.
The proposed PKR zoning is the most appropriate zoning designation for the subject property, and this zoning is the zoning district that implements the proposed PKR FLUM designation.
On April 14, 2025, the Planning and Zoning Board recommended approval of this PKR rezoning.
