BACKGROUND (Why is this Action Necessary, and What Action will be accomplished)

body

Background:

Charlotte County operates its own fire department, which delegates to its Fire Marshal the authority to function as the "Authority Having Jurisdiction" ("AHJ") to enforce the Florida Fire Prevention Code within unincorporated Charlotte County.

Charlotte County Fire EMS/Public Safety staff was approached by Englewood Area Fire Control District (District) to discuss the feasibility to delegate to the District, limited AHJ within the District’s portion of unincorporated Charlotte County.

In order to achieve maximum efficiency, the parties propose that Charlotte County delegate to the District, limited AHJ responsibility for reviewing and approving building and construction plans for fire prevention and life safety purposes only; conducting inspections; and delegates to the District Fire Marshal the authority to enforce the Florida Fire Prevention Code for the portions of the District within unincorporated Charlotte County only.
