Background:

body

Utilities operate an existing 12-inch potable water main constructed in 1970 that serves the Gulf Cove area. The 12-inch AC pipe segment south of the Myakka River is approximately 60 years old and has reached the end of its useful life.

As part of the Regional Integrated Loop and Peace River Manasota Regional Water Supply Authority (PRMRWSA) Phase 2B project, a 42-inch transmission main is being constructed within the same corridor. The proposal recommends installing a new 16-inch PVC parallel water main concurrently with that project and removing the existing 12-inch AC main to improve reliability, redundancy, and long-term water quality.
