body
Background:
Staff, on behalf of the Charlotte County Board of County Commissioners (Board), is requesting this rezoning application to amend the Charlotte County Zoning Atlas from Residential Single-family 3.5 (RSF-3.5) (109.767? acres) and Residential Multi-family 10 (RMF-10) (9.58? acres) to Parks and Recreation (PKR). The subject property is located on the south side of Tamiami Trail (US 41), in the Port Charlotte area, within the Murdock Village Community Redevelopment Area (CRA). The stated purpose of this rezoning of the subject property, which contains the County's Centennial Park, is to ensure that the proposed zoning category of PKR is consistent with the current use of an active park with numerous recreational amenities to serve Charlotte County citizens and potential future development of the property.
The property is designated as Murdock Village Mixed Use (MVMU). The proposed PKR zoning is the most appropriate zoning designation for the subject property, and this zoning is one of the zoning districts that implements the MVMU FLUM designation.
