BACKGROUND (Why is this Action Necessary, and What Action will be accomplished)
body
Background:
CareerSource Southwest Florida has requested Board approval of several required compliance actions necessary to maintain its designation and operational authority under the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA). As outlined in the March 20, 2026, correspondence from CareerSource Southwest Florida, these actions include: (1) approval of the application for subsequent designation as a Local Workforce Development Area, which is required due to the current designation expiring June 30, 2026; (2) approval of a three-year extension (July 1, 2026 through June 30, 2029) for CareerSource Southwest Florida to continue serving as the direct provider of workforce services, supported by demonstrated cost savings and operational efficiencies; and (3) approval of CareerSource Southwest Florida to serve as the One-Stop Operator for the regional workforce system, as recommended by its Board of Directors based on cost-effectiveness considerations. These items have already been approved by the CareerSource Southwest Florida Workforce Development Board of Directors and are being presented to the Board of County Commissioners in its capacity as a member of the Southwest Florida Workforce Development Consortium for final approval and submission to the State.
