BACKGROUND (Why is this Action Necessary, and What Action will be accomplished)

body

Background:

The East Port Shelter Lift Station Generator project is needed to ensure the Utility’s wastewater system continues working during power outages, storms, or other emergencies.

Lift stations are essential parts of the wastewater system. They pump wastewater from lower areas to higher areas so it can move through the system properly. If a lift station stops working, it can quickly cause backups, sewer overflows, and environmental damage.

By installing a dedicated generator at the East Port Shelter Water Reclamation Facility (WRF) Lift Station, the County will:

•                     Keep the lift station running even if the power goes out.

•                     Reduce the risk of system failures and sanitary sewer overflows.

•                     Protect public health and the environment.

•                     Increase the resilience of critical infrastructure during hurricanes and other natural disasters.

The FDEM Hazard Mitigation Grant will assist in funding the construction, permitting, and completion of this project.
