BACKGROUND (Why is this Action Necessary, and What Action will be accomplished)

body

Background:

Manasota Key Beach Restoration Project & The Charlotte County Erosion Control Project align with the Strategic Focus Areas of Public Service: Preservation of coastal assets; Economic & Community Development: Environmental stewardship and enhanced quality of life. Charlotte County's coastal resources are vital to tourism, economic development, and have become a valuable community amenity that must be protected and preserved for future generations. The projects include providing erosion control and shoreline stabilization measures including beach nourishment, maintenance dredge bypassing, and stabilizing structures for over eight (8) miles of eroding gulf and inlet shorelines within the Manasota Barriers, Sarasota County and Charlotte County. There is no duplicative service already in the community and due to the impacts of Hurricanes Ian, Nicole, Idalia, Debby, Helene, and Milton, 100% of the advanced nourishment volume has been eroded since the 2020 construction.
