Conduct a Public Hearing on July 28, 2026, at 10:00 a.m., or as soon thereafter as may be heard, in Room 119 at 18500 Murdock Circle, Port Charlotte, Florida, to consider approving a resolution relating to the continuation of the Environmentally Sensitive Lands Program .20 mill ad valorem tax for an additional twenty-year period and further relating to a bond referendum for the issuance of bonds not-to-exceed $70,000,000, to be held in conjunction with the November 3, 2026 general election.

Background:

Currently the Conservation Charlotte Program authorizes the acquisition of environmentally sensitive lands and millage is set to expire in 2027. The proposed renewal of the Conservation Charlotte Program will continue the acquisition of environmentally sensitive lands and expand the Program to include additional criteria to evaluate potential properties that are degraded natural lands that can be restored, as well as criteria to evaluate potential properties for floodplain conservation.
