Background:

body

The FY 2026 Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA) Byrne Discretionary Community Project Funding Program provides federal funding for congressionally designated projects that enhance public safety and criminal justice capabilities in local communities. Eligible applicants are limited to units of local government; therefore, the Charlotte County Sheriff's Office is not eligible to apply directly and will participate as the subrecipient under Charlotte County's application. The program supports projects that improve law enforcement operations through personnel, technology, equipment, training, and other public safety initiatives while requiring compliance with applicable federal grant requirements. Under this application, Charlotte County will serve as the applicant, with the Charlotte County Sheriff's Office as the subrecipient implementing Category 1 - Hiring and Category 2 - Technology and Equipment activities.
