body

Background:

Staff, on behalf of the Charlotte County Board of County Commissioners, is requesting a rezoning from Residential Estate 1 (RE-1) to Commercial General (CG) and Environmentally Sensitive (ES).

The subject property is in the Punta Gorda area and within the South County area.

The stated purpose of this rezoning application is to correct an inconsistency between the Future Land Use Map (FLUM) designations of Commercial (COM) and Preservation (PR) and the current Residential Estate (RE-1) zoning district.

On April 13, 2026, the Planning and Zoning Board recommended approval of this CG and ES rezoning, by a 2-1 vote.

What Action will be accomplished?

If the Board of County Commissioners approves this rezoning request, the proposed CG and ES zoning districts will be consistent with the existing Commercial (COM) and Preservation (PR) FLUM designations for this property.
