Budgeted Action:
No action needed. A fourth quarter budget adjustment will be brought to the Board if project is awarded. Funding for this Hurricane Milton repair is being collected in the hurricane fund. There is an anticipated reimbursement of 75% from FEMA (Federal Emergency Management Agency) with a state reimbursement of 12.5% and a local match of 12.5%.
Background:
body
Bocilla Lagoon is located on Don Pedro Island and is considered a public waterway. There has never been an MSBU established, nor a continual maintenance plan created for Bocilla Lagoon because it has never been necessary except for the rare occasions that over washed sand from surge events washes into the lagoon. In a previous storm event, Charlotte County was tasked with removing over washed sand in Bocilla Lagoon. This storm was years ago, and staff was not aware of what funding source was used to cover the match for FEMA during this project.
