BACKGROUND (Why is this Action Necessary, and What Action will be accomplished)

body

Background:

The planning/feasibility study will evaluate an alternative road cross-section that will improve the safety and function of this portion of US41 (SR45). The six-lane roadway feeds into a dual span two-lane bridge. The planning study would evaluate alternative roadway cross-sections to determine what improvements would be feasible that would improve both pedestrian and bicycle safety while improving vehicular access and improving the function of the roadway. This highly traveled & congested span on US41 (SR45) from Kings Hwy. to the Peace River Bridge has been riddled with traffic accidents and fatalities. It is imperative that we make every effort to improve safety in this area. The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) has awarded Charlotte County $200,000.00 to fund the planning/feasibility study with no match required.
