BACKGROUND (Why is this Action Necessary, and What Action will be accomplished)

Background:
O’Neal Cunanan is a Firefighter who has been employed by the County since 2006. A mediated settlement was tentatively reached on July 24, 2026, subject to approval by the Board. The proposed settlement is $60,000.00 for one (1) workers’ compensation claim. This claim presents significant potential exposure to the County and, if left unresolved, could result in substantial workers’ compensation costs over the course of the employee’s lifetime. The proposed settlement would resolve the County’s ongoing exposure associated with this claim.
