Background:
body
On June 22, 2021, the Board approved Resolution 21-077, authorizing Charlotte County to join the State and other governmental units as a participant in the Florida Plan, which sets forth the framework for the allocation and use of opioid settlement proceeds.
A proposed national opioid settlement has been reached with six regional distributers/dispenser defendants: Associated Pharmacies, Inc. (and American Associated Pharmacies); J M Smith Corporation; Louisiana Wholesale Drug Company, Inc.; Morris and Dickson Co.; North Carolina Mutual Wholesale Drug Company, Inc.; and United Natural Foods, Inc. (including its subsidiaries SuperValu and Advantage Logistics).
The settlement includes a release of claims. If the participation rate is sufficient for settlement to move forward, then the release will become effective as to all Remnant Defendants that determine to move forward. If a Remnant Defendant determines not to move forward, the release as to that Remnant Defendant will not become effective.
