Background:

body

On June 28, 2021, the Board adopted Resolution 2021-077 agreeing to participate in the Florida Unified Plan governing the allocation and use of opioid settlement proceeds. Use of the monies is essentially limited to treatment and education of opioid/substance abuse. There are 3 pots of monies - a city/county fund, a regional pot, and the State pot.

Given our population size, our share under the regional pot goes to Department of Children and Families (DCF) and then to the managing entity for spending on our behalf in the region. DCF partners with the Central Florida Behavioral Network (CFBN) which serves as the managing entity in our area.

On October 28, 2024, CFBN indicated they will be passing the non-qualified county funding dedicated to Charlotte County directly to the County. Charlotte County is allocated $597,919 for FY2024-25 and $1,022,763 in carry forward funding from FY2023-24. The carry forward funding was allocated to Charlotte Behavioral Health by the BCC on November 14, 2023. Staff is proposing to allocate the FY 2024-25 Work Program funding to Charlotte County Public Safety-Fire & EMS and Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office for the IRIS program.
