BACKGROUND (Why is this Action Necessary, and What Action will be accomplished)

body

Background:

The Charlotte County Board of County Commissioners selected Weston & Sampson Engineers, Inc. to prepare a Basis of Design Report for the South County Utility Improvements Project, which was presented on January 7, 2025. Following the presentation, the Board determined the project is necessary to improve water system reliability, capacity, and resiliency in the Burnt Store service area.

Charlotte County Utilities subsequently received approximately $10.7 million in funding through the Florida Department of Environmental Protection SAHFI Program. The Board then authorized the consultant to proceed with final design and construction documents for the project, which includes an elevated potable water storage tank and related system improvements.

Approval of this resolution is requested to formally support the South County Utility Improvements Project and acknowledge the significant external funding awarded through the FDEP SAHFI Program. This action affirms the Board’s commitment to enhancing potable water system reliability, capacity, and resiliency for the Burnt Store service area.
