Background:

body

The Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) have an initiative for gateways, entry features and landscape corridors. In 2018, Public Works and FDOT staff discussed the potential for programming a landscape project along SR776 from Murdock Circle to the Myakka River. Subsequently, the BOCC provided a letter of support for the completion of the project. FDOT project 444907-1 has allocated $852,000 for construction of the project. Charlotte County will need to fund the design of the landscaping, in addition to any construction cost over the allocated FDOT monies. Additionally, perpetual maintenance of the corridor will also be funded by Charlotte County (with minimal reimbursements via the maintenance agreement with FDOT). Public Works staff estimates maintenance costs to range between $54,000 and $83,000 for approximately 5 miles of roadway (at current costs).
