BACKGROUND (Why is this Action Necessary, and What Action will be accomplished)
body
Background:
Charlotte County was awarded a 6-year grant from FDEP to establish a Flood Monitoring and Response Network. The initiative addresses the extensive flooding and damage in the low-lying areas of Charlotte County during the hurricanes, which revealed significant gaps in current flood management.
A key component of this project involves installing approximately 30 telemetry-capable water elevation gauges for real-time tracking of water levels in local canals and coastal waters. Furthermore, the project will analyze trends in tide and freshwater conveyance, as well as evaluate the responses of existing stormwater management systems to storm events. A compound flood model will be developed specifically for the western portion of the County. Lastly, a flood visualization tool will be implemented to assist the public in tracking water elevation rates and assessing potential flood risks related to active or upcoming storms.
