HB 657 Enforcement of School Zone Speed Limits was passed by the Florida legislature, approved by the Governor and became effective July 1, 2023. The bill authorizes counties and municipalities to use speed detection systems to enforce school zone speed limits for violations in excess of 10 miles per hour over the applicable speed limit when children are going to or from school and during the entirety of the school day. The bill provides for a $100 penalty for each violation and provides for the distribution of the proceeds to state and local governments.
