REQUESTED MOTION/ACTION
recommendation
Recommended Action:
a) Approve grant application with the Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission in the amount of $2,138,976 for renovation of the Ainger Creek Boat Ramp; and
b) Approve Resolution authorizing application for the grant and designating the County Administrator, or his/her designee, to apply, execute, and administer the grant; and
c) Authorize the Chairman to sign the Resolution.

Budgeted Action:
No action needed. A budget adjustment and Capital Improvement Program amendment will be brought to the Board for approval, if awarded. Adjustment will be to Capital Improvements Project “Boating Improvements-Ainger Creek” anticipated to be approved in the FY25 budget process. Grant funding of $2,138,976 will come from the Florida Boater Improvement Program. There is no County match required.

BACKGROUND (Why is this Action Necessary, and What Action will be accomplished)

Background:
The boat ramp at Ainger Creek Park is over 40 years old and the County’s oldest public boat ramp. Configuration of the ramp focuses vessel prop wash at the mangrove shoreline resulting in scouring. The park’s existing trailer parking spaces are narrow and not adequate in length, resulting in reduced parking capacity. The existing stormwater management system does not function as designed, some finger piers are closed, and the seawall is deteriorated. Risks include, but are not limited to, seawall failure, further shoreline erosion/loss of mangroves, and increased impacts to vessel navigation from continued channel shoaling. The grant application provides additional funding to complete the project.
